We are excited to welcome hundreds of gravel enthusiasts to Swellendam, the home of Canola, this weekend. The weather predictions are looking favourable!
Over the past few weeks, we have been closely monitoring the weather to assess its impact on the route and the operation of the Pont at Malgas. Currently the Pont is not operating and we are not sure when it will be back in operation again. Due to Theewaterskloof Dam being over 100% full, the Breede River feeder system may run at higher levels, potentially leading to the Malgas Pont being withdrawn from service if operating by this weekend. We have decided to amend the route for the event this year to bypass the Pont, thereby eliminating the risk of a potential closure of the Malgas Pont on the day or days before the event.
Participants will enjoy a delicious roosterkoek at our new feed zone at Ouplaas. Riders will be timed upon entering the feed zone and will have 30 minutes to rest, relax, and refuel before continuing their journey. It is important to note that you must enter and exit the feed zone through the timing areas. You are not required to spend the full 30 minutes in the feed zone and may pass through without stopping. If you stay longer than 30 minutes, your time will automatically start after the 30-minute mark.
The event will start at the Show Grounds in Swellendam, with a neutral zone until you reach the gravel road towards Malgas. Your time will start at the end of the neutral zone and stop at the same point on your return. With the exception of the 200 milers whose time will start as they exit the Show Grounds. The 25 Miler will also make use of stunning gravel roads and will not go through Bontebok Park anymore. Riders will then make their way back on the N2 under neutral and head back to the Show Grounds in Swellendam to celebrate.
The route distances are as follows:
• 200 miler: 295 km
• 100 miler: 155 km
• 60 miler: 102 km
• 25 miler: 48 km
We look forward to a fantastic event and can't wait to see you there!
